Letter Template in Support of Fully Funding Our Schools
Dear <>,
As a resident of Hingham and concerned parent, I am writing to ask that you support the FULL amount of the level services budget recommended by the Hingham Public Schools administration as part of the Operational Override.
Realizing there is discussion about putting forth a reduced amount, it's important to note that even the first and second levels of proposed cuts (which would be our reality if a lesser amount is put forth to voters) is incredibly detrimental to students.
At the elementary level, the first two levels of reductions include a MTSS Coordinator, a Writing Specialist and Interventionists - people responsible for ensuring students’ early literacy and math skills, core skills needed to set students up for success, are sound. Our Field Science teacher is instrumental in presenting hands-on learning opportunities across all 4 elementary schools, and for preparing all 5th graders in our district for Science MCAS, which covers concepts from 3rd through 5th grade - a difficult test to prepare for indeed. Each Kindergarten class truly needs the support of a paraprofessional; however that won’t be the case if it’s decided to put forth a lesser amount for the Override.
This level services budget doesn't touch the Unmet Needs budget - which is what I truly wish we were talking about. But given where we are in the budget discussion, I implore you to at least support the entirety of the Level Services budget presented by HPS Administration.
Please give our next generation the support they need to thrive in the future. I appreciate your time and consideration.
Warm regards,
